Cottage
Woolrich Retreat is the original cottage home of the Woolrich family who started the nursery on this site in 1917. Set in 5 acres of lush gardens, it has now been lovingly restored and will accommodate two couples in comfort. It has two double bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathroom and walk-in robes; a separate Jacuzzi room; a large lounge with open fireplace and a dining nook in the bay window; a modern, fully-equipped kitchen; and a large deck with BBQ overlooking the gardens. Facilities include: digital TV, local telephone, wireless internet, CD-player, DVD-player and collections of DVDs, CDs, games, books and magazines. Provisions for a full cooked breakfast are included: bacon, eggs, sausages, tomatoes, together with a selection of fresh fruits, cereals, yoghurt and muesli.
Gardens
These unusual gardens show what can happen when a nursery has been abandoned for 40 years. Beds of rhododendron and camellia seedlings have grown into tall trees, crowded together and reaching for the sky. Azaleas create a colourful maze, and there are many specimen trees about the site, including a magnificent weeping beech. The myriad paths and steps have been restored to create some fascinating walks. Lyrebirds are common visitors and delight in digging up the garden, but they are hard to spot. The colours in Spring and Autumn are spectacular, but the gardens provide a green haven at any time of year.
