The approach to the seclusion of Arcadia is through green, temperate rainforest. The cottages are surrounded by rambling gardens with 100 year old oaks, southern beeches and cathedral high mountain ash.

In winter the camellias bloom in pink, red and white, in spring rhododendrons flower in their hundreds.

Wild ducks paddle on Arcadia's ornamental ponds. Beyond the gardens, distance gives the ranges a watercolour wash of blue. The feeling at Arcadia is relaxing and enchanting.

Should relaxing in bed, in the spa or in front of the fire become too much for you, there are many other things to do. Arcadia is a short walk away from Olinda which has cafes, restaurants and antique shops.

The National Rhododendron garden in the adjoining National Park is spectacular from September to December.

Or pack your clubs and play the local golf course with its astonishing views. Take a walk in the Arboretum or the William Ricketts Sanctuary.

Ride a horse or Puffing Billy. Drive to Healesville Sanctuary or the Yarra Valley vineyards. Or put off doing anything until next time you come.
